Depression Affects All Ages

The “Depression Among All Ages: Part 1-Child-Adolescent Depression Awareness and Prevention Community Event,” was held on Saturday, October 27th, 2018 at 6304 5th Avenue, in Brooklyn, NY 11220. Our CSH Chairperson, Dr. Xu Z. Chen, along with Hui-Ling Hsu, LCSW, and Zhen-Ming Tian, LMSW  educated our Chinese immigrant community about the issues revolving around child/adolescent depression. They explained how to diagnose child-adolescent depression at the early stage, how to prevent child-adolescent depression, Internet addiction, school truancy (dropouts), sexual abuse and the difference between child-adolescent depression and adult depression. The subtopics are related to current news that has happened recently in the Chinese community. We provided giveaways, refreshments and a depression assessment along with critical information to help the parents learn about this illness and how it is affecting the Chinese community.

In 2019, CSH held our annual educational outreach “Depression Among All Ages: Part 2- Peri/Post-partum Depression Awareness and Prevention Community Event” on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 from 11-3 PM at 6304 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220. Our Chairperson, Dr. Xu Z. Chen, and Hui Ling Hsu, LCSW, educated our community about peri-partum and post-partum depression . They presented powerpoints to help the participants learn about its diagnosis, prevention methods, risks, treatments and other useful information that the new moms or soon to be mothers would need to know to stay mentally healthy to support themselves and their families.

This October 2020, we will be holding a “Depression Among All Ages: Part 3 – Elderly Depression Prevention and Awareness Community Event”at 6304 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220. Our licensed mental health professionals will be educating the public about the diagnosis, prevention methods, risks and treatments for elderly depression to prevent suicide among this vulnerable population. They will also provide other valuable information and resources that will help seniors to stay mentally healthy for themselves and their families. Please come back in the Summer of 2020 to see the exact date of the Community half day event filled with powerpoint presentations hosted by experienced professionals, with sponsor giveaways and refreshments.
